SJR Motorcycle Training
SJR Motorcycle Training is the only established motorcycle training school in Dorchester. We are a locally based company run by friendly fully qualified Driving Standards Agency instructors. We offer all levels of motorcycle training from Compulsory Basic Training (CBT) to Direct Access Training (DAS)..

Our aim is to make your training experience enjoyable, stress free, relaxed and maybe even exhilarating whilst endeavouring to train you to the highest standard.

Take note. This is supposed to be fun! If you have a problem we are trained to help you overcome it. That’s what we do!

Training
There is a minefield of information available regarding the training required to legally ride a motorcycle in the UK. We have condensed it into a very basic guide for this site. We have more in depth information if you require it that we'd be delighted to send to you. It also gives you an opportunity to talk to the person who is going to train you! Just call me on 01305 854128 or 07966575116 or leave a message, I can also be contacted through SJR Bikes on 01305 259778

We train all days of the week and although based in Dorchester are able to provide training throughout South and West Dorset. For those worried and anxious parents we will even accompany your pride and joy back to your doorstep at the end of the day.

CBT – Compulsory Basic Training. What is it?
Exactly what it says. COMPULSORY …Anybody wishing to ride a Moped or Motorcycle up to 125cc is required to take it. At the end of the course (generally a day) you will receive a CBT Certificate which will validate the provisional motorcycle entitlement of your licence. This is valid for 2 years.
BASIC…Provides hands on basic riding and road craft skills over several hours off road, ending up with a minimum 2 hour on road session.
TRAINING…Not a test! Day of instruction partly spent off road carrying out basic manoeuvres. If you have difficulty with any aspect then it is our job to help you over come it. We have incredible amounts of patience so don’t worry!

Light Motorcycle Licence A1 (75cc –125cc)
This may involve training over several days on a motorcycle of between 75cc and 125cc. On passing the test the full licence allows the rider to ride any light motorcycle up to 125cc. If you take the test on an automatic then your licence will be restricted to automatic motorcycles only.

Standard Motorcycle Licence A2 (125cc)
If the test is taken on a standard 125cc then this will allow the rider to ride up to 33bhp (25kw) for a period of 2 years. After that period you can ride any motorcycle. If you take the test on an automatic then your licence will be restricted to automatic motorcycles only.

Direct Access (500cc+)
This may involve training over several days (up to 5 days for a complete novice). You would still have to complete CBT then, when ready, progress up to a motorcycle with a power output of no less than 46.6 bhp (35kw). On passing the test the full licence allows the rider to ride any motorcycle immediately. You must be 21 years or older to take this course.

Theory Test
The theory test consists of 2 elements; multiple choice and hazard perception. You must pass both parts at the same time to gain your theory certificate. Once passed this, like your CBT certificate, is valid for 2 years. To book a theory test call DSA on 0870 0101372. A useful website to browse is www.driving-tests.co.uk If you require any further information, CDs, books or application forms please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Having taken your test many years ago you may want a refresher.
